Foster City

Carefully constructed to offer the best of all worlds for residents, Foster City is a planned community that has previously ranked on Forbes Magazine's Best Places to Live. Located on the Peninsula of the San Francisco Bay Area, this luxurious city offers an appealing blend of fashionable neighborhoods, stunning parks, and quaint businesses, all situated around a 212-acre lagoon. Foster City is home to numerous large employers such as Visa International, Sony Computer Entertainment, Gilead Sciences, and it is also hailed as one of the nation’s safest cities. Locals have even referred to Foster City as the “Wisteria Lane” of the Peninsula for the delicate homes, manicured lawns and picturesque suburban atmosphere.

Like most of the other cities that line the area between Highway 101 and the San Francisco Bay, Foster City has a year-round mild climate that makes it one of San Mateo County’s more desirable places to live. With access to major freeways, commuters are within a short driving distance to Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco and San Jose. It is a driving style community, though, and access to the Caltrain or BART system will require a drive to nearby San Mateo or Millbrae. With a large number of residents and business and only a couple freeway access points, traffic getting in and out of the town can become congested during peak hours.

The Foster City school system is what attracts most residents to the local community. It is known as one of the best in the region, and all four of the Elementary schools in the district have received the California Distinguished School award. The high school district that serves the region is the San Mateo Union High School District, but all of the high schools are located on the opposite side of Highway 101 and require a commute. Foster City is also home to the Ronald C. Wornick Jewish Day School, which serves K-8 students, and was rated as the number one Jewish Day School on the Peninsula.

Foster City is located in the 94404 zip code. The homes in the region are a pretty equal split between single-family homes, condos, and townhomes as would be expected with a master planned community. Below is the historical market data for the city.
