Services For Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is nearly invisible in our community yet eight times more common in the US than the diseases of breast cancer, spinal cord injury, AIDS and multiple sclerosis combined. For almost thirty years, Services For Brain Injury (SBI) has been filling a critical “gap” in rehabilitation for our neighbors with brain injuries when outpatient insurance benefits end. Last year SBI’s licensed therapists and staff provided rehabilitation to several hundred Bay Area residents with brain injuries and their families, as well as our veterans. This included individual therapy combined with group-based cognitive rehabilitation and vocational training. We placed dozens of people in permanent employment that included on-the-job coaching, as needed. SBI also provided 1-to-1 caregiver support, referrals, and information to several thousand more area residents. While we hope no one ever needs our services, SBI continues to meet the largely invisible yet growing demand for brain injury rehabilitation in our community.
